Three Sure Ways To Build A Winning Team
I’ve been in the leadership development and training business for over twenty years. Along the way, I’ve observed that one of the most important tasks a leader can accomplish is to build a winning team. When this happens, it becomes a “win-win” for both the leader and the team. Sounds easy enough, doesn’t it? Well, building a winning team does not come easy nor seldom does it come quickly. From my experience building a winning team does require at least three strong commitments.
1. An effective team builder makes his or her people successful. My good friend Zig Ziglar once said, “If you first help people get what they want, they will help you get what you want.”
2. An effective team builder keeps the “win” in clear focus. Mission drift is not permitted. The mission of the team is constantly underscored in every communication.
3. An effective team builder pushes against the status quo mindset. There are no sacred cows in a winning team. Evaluations, of what is working and what is not, are a regular occurrence on a winning team.
You’ve read my perspective. Now, I’d love to hear yours. Of these three commitments to building a winning team, did anyone of these three resonate with you? Tell me why.
If you need help working through the process consider using the resources at Coates and Associates, Inc. We would consider it an honor to visit with you about developing a process forward.
