Hot off the press! Yet another great way that smart technology can be used to improve how we serve our customers. One local pastor announced yesterday that starting this Sunday, parishioners will be able to access via their smartphone or smart device, his sermon outline, notes and other reference material during the service.

Dr. David Wike, an innovator when it comes to incorporating technology in unconventional ways, is encouraging his church members and guests to be ready to experience this new service. As pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, a church with a more conservative and traditional worship style, Dr. Wike is not tentative about looking for new ways to engage the congregation or the community. Using smart technology in a variety of ways is helping to reach more people in the community.
The use of these devices should not distract from the worship service, as those who choose not to participate will not have to do so. But for those congregants that want to connect and worship, they can. Many folks already use their cellphones, mini-computers and iPad devices to connect to websites like YouVersion.com to follow scripture readings. This new approach will expand the use of these devices.
Whether you agree with this use of the technology or not, Dr. Wike is to be applauded for braving the waters on this front. While other churches and similar groups are using this approach around the country, attendees at future services at this church will have another way of accessing important information relative to the worship experience.
