Over the past few weeks it seems that life has caught up with me. Apparently, I have reached that magic number in my journey where I begin to notice with much more interest the frailties of life. In a short period of time, we have experienced serious illness among our parents, sudden unexpected illness and surgery of a young member of our family and just this week a tragic death of a friend of the family. In the same timeframe, my closest friends have experienced the loss of love ones and sickness. Certainly these kinds of experiences are not unique to me, my family and friends. And I am sure that we have encountered similar situations before. But today maybe more than before, I know that I am not promised tomorrow. So what do I/we do differently, beginning today. It's simple...LIVE!
Oh how precious the gift of life appears as we see others leave us or struggle with the challenges of poor health and aging. So we must do more to insure that we get the most out of life.
That starts with taking action to make a difference both for others and ourselves. Yes, I mean much is added to our lives as we give attention and energy toward the lives of others.
Of course, we need to take commonsense steps to getting the most of of life by taking care of our own health. Eating right and exercising requires effort and action.
We should focus more attention on the needs of others. In nearly every situation, someone may have a greater need than you. We will gain strength for our journey by helping others with the curveballs life has thrown to them.
Some us may need to change our thought patterns by striving daily to think positively. It is important to resist allowing negative thoughts to guide our actions.
We should spend time in prayer and meditation about the stresses of life. We should surrender our hearts in prayer to God for guidance and help. This will most certainly yield peace and a calmness compared to stress associated with worry and anxiety about things.
Finally, remember to live. We get so busy with doing life that we forget to live. Our passion for the things of life often times causes us to overlook the essence, beauty and gift of life. Celebrate it, drink it, and glean from it every ounce of joy that it offers. Store it up for times like these, when you really need it.
So I encourage you take time to smell the flowers. Laugh more, love more and LIVE,LIVE,LIVE!!!
