While traveling this week, I have spent some time remembering the special person of Zig Ziglar and the fact that he moved on to Glory this week. What a man, whose influence on the lives of so many has and will yield tremendous value for many years to come.
I remember a very special encounter I was fortunate to experience with Zig thirty years ago. As a young college kid, serving as National FFA Secretary, I spent a couple of days with Zig, his family, and his church. I attended church with him and spent Sunday afternoon at his Dallas home with him and his wife, that he lovingly referred to as his "Redhead." All day long I witnessed firsthand the work of the master salesman he had become. The next day Zig invited me and other members of my team to come to work with him at the Zig Ziglar Corporation and lead his staff in their regular Monday morning devotion time. I must tell you how nervous I was, but also how inspiring that time with Zig was for all of us.
Like so many of you, I read his first famous book, See You at The Top, and have relied on many of those commonsense principles for more than 30 years. For me, this special glimpse of time rekindles in me the connection with Zig. You see, that is one of the special gifts that Zig had. In the big scheme of things the experience of the weekend in Dallas could have been bothersome for some people of his success, however, for Zig he lived his lessons not just talking to crowds.
So, today I bid farewell to Zig Ziglar. Well done our master salesman. Welcome into the presence of the Greatest Salesman that ever lived about whom you taught us all. Thank you Zig, and I will See You At The Top!
