Wow it hardly seems like another year has passed and Christmas time is here again. But, we are truly blessed to be able to find ways to help others during this special time of the year. So much has happened around the world, in our country and community in 2015. We have much to be grateful for, but nothing so wonderful as the blessed gift of love which came to Earth for us more than two centuries ago. At Coates and Associates, Inc. we desire to share His love in our work, actions and deeds.
(Below is an article that was published recently in Auto Dealer News. It was an honor and pleasure for me to highlight the work of this worthy organization. In the nature of ExtraOrdinary, this group is anything but ordinary. Enjoy!!!)
Not Your Ordinary Used Car Dealership
By Marty Coates
Each year, I
provide training to thousands of independent automobile dealers. Each dealer has a story and recently I met a few guys in one of
the classes that were associated with an “ExtraOrdinary” dealership.
For most of us, the month of November usually provides for a change of seasons. As the leaves become dry and fall from our trees, the fragrance of something different is in the air.
In this month, many around the United States, change their clock settings, as the switch to Daylight Savings Time takes place. And noticebly the grass is fading from green to brown. So many of the brilliant colors of summer are blowing away in the cool, brisk temperatures of fall.
Nature has a way of reminding us for a need to change.
A few weeks ago I met Rudy Ruttiger, the real
"Rudy"! He was enlightening, engaging, and truly an older version of
the character played by Sean Astin in the movie by the same name. His inspiring
story of a dreamer whose focus to play football at his beloved Notre Dame
University draws a terrific picture of the life of a Waymaker. While his life
after Notre Dame did not result in a pro football career, he continued to
contribute. He became a parent, a salesman, and a committed citizen investing
his life in others.
"When a defining moment comes, you define the moment or the moment defines you." This quote is from the movie "Tin Cup," with Kevin Costner playing the main character, Roy McAvoy.
While watching the movie "Tin Cup" this weekend, for what must be the 1000th time, I heard the above referenced quote differently than all the other times. Where was I before? The movie was filled with micro moments when the main character, Roy McAvoy is confronted with what are portrayed as "defining moments.

The Proactive Leader
of the most important attributes a leader can possess is to be proactive.
Instead of the business coming to him or her, the proactive leader takes the
initiative and goes and gets it. Instead waiting for a problem to fix itself,
the proactive leader has the ability to cut to the chase and address the
problem before it evolves into an even greater challenge. The proactive leader
is on the cutting edge of self-leadership: he or she makes an intentional
effort to lead one’s own self.

Potential By Taking Action
I visit with successful leaders I have discovered that each one has taken the
necessary steps to reaching their potential. When other leaders seem to become
stuck in unrealized potential, the successful leader has broken through. Why do
some succeed and others fail in this critically important area of personal
growth? There are three principles that each leader who fulfills their
potential learns to implement.
